News from the Library

For the past few weeks students have been listening and responding to this year's Red Clover nominees.  The Red Clover award program is Vermont's children's choice picture book award.  Every year ten outstanding picture books are selected by a committee of teachers and librarians as the year's Red Clover nominees.  All of the selected nominees were written the previous year.  Students in grades K-4 all around the state of Vermont listen to the ten nominees and then vote on their favorite in late March/early April.

This year's nominees feature fantastic authors and illustrators.  There are fiction and nonfiction selections.  There is an excellent Red Clover web site that features activities and web sites related to the books. I highly recommend visiting this site with your child to see the books that we've been reading as well as allowing them to dive deeper into the books by accessing related content.  For instance, this week's book is a nonfiction picture book about the artist, Henri Rousseau.  One of the links for this book on the Red Clover site takes you to the National Gallery of Art where users can create art on their computer in similar style to Henri Rousseau.

The best way to access this site is to navigate via the library web page on our school's web site.  Click on the Red Clover icon and it will take you to the Red Clover site with all of the books listed on the left hand side.

Have fun!
